چکیده

Although texture-based methods provide a very promising way to visualize 3D vector fields, they often fail for 3D volume due to their dense 3D texture. In this paper, we introduce the notion of "3D significance map", and describe how significance values are derived from the intrinsic properties of a vector field. Based on the 3D significance map, we can control transfer functions for comprehensible volume LIC rendering, highlighting the significant regions and neglecting insignificant information. 3D streamline illumination model is also employed to reveal the flow direction embedded in the solid LIC texture. Experimental results illustrate the feasibility of our method. REPORT DATE November 2nd, 2001. TOTAL NO. Interactive Animation of Volume Line Integral Convolution Based on 3D Texture Mapping

Line integral convolution (LIC) is an eeective technique for visualizing vector elds. The application of LIC to 3D ow elds has yet been limited by diiculties to eeciently display and animate the resulting 3D images. Texture-based volume rendering allows interactive visualization and manipulation of 3D LIC textures. In this context, we suggest two related approaches for animating static 3D ow el...

Visualizing 3D Flow

49 A n elegant and versatile technique, line integral convolution (LIC) 1,2 represents directional information via patterns of correlation in a texture. Although most commonly used to depict 2D flow, or flow over a surface in 3D, LIC methods can also portray 3D flow through a volume. 1,3 However, the popularity of LIC as a device for illustrating 3D flow has historically been limited by the com...

Feature Based Rendering for 2D/3D Partial Volume Segmentation Datasets

In this paper, a new feature based rendering algorithm for partial volume is presented. This algorithm utilizes both surface and volume information for the rendering of the partial volume segmentation data with associated features. First principal directions are extracted from the partial volume segmentation dataset to construct a feature vector dataset. Using the improved LIC (line integral co...

A texture-based hardware-independent technique for time-varying volume flow visualization

Existing texture-based 3D flow visualization techniques, e.g., volume Line Integral Convolution (LIC), are either limited to steady flows or dependent on special-purpose graphics cards. In this paper we present a texture-based hardware-independent technique for time-varying volume flow visualization. It is based on our Accelerated Unsteady Flow LIC (AUFLIC) algorithm (Liu and Moorhead, 2005), w...

Segmentation Assisted Object Distinction for Direct Volume Rendering

Ray Casting is a direct volume rendering technique for visualizing 3D arrays of sampled data. It has vital applications in medical and biological imaging. Nevertheless, it is inherently open to cluttered classification results. It suffers from overlapping transfer function values and lacks a sufficiently powerful voxel parsing mechanism for object distinction. In this work, we are proposing an ...
